How you should make money playing Online Poker

How you should make money playing Online Poker.

Most people start play online poker with a dream of hitting the big bucks. The reality is that very few people actually make any money from poker.

When the money doesn’t come the excuses are many: bad luck, bad cards, or it’s impossible to win money playing poker because it’s like a lottery.

Another very common excuse is that you’re losing money because you’re so much better than the other players that it’s impossible to play proper poker because of the low level of play!

Here are seven rules on how you should make money when playing online poker.

Follow them to increase your chances of joining the group of successful poker sharks.

1. Never play with all your money.

If you do, sooner or later you will lose it all. This rule comes first because it’s the single most important rule and the one that most beginners don’t understand.

A good rule of thumb is to never gamble with more than 10% of your bankroll at one single cash-game table.

For example, let’s say you have $100 in your poker account then you should only bring $10 to a table.

A full buy-in is usually 100 times the big blind so you should play on a $0.05/ $0.10-table.

If you are a tournament player you should bring even less money to the table.

2. Play tight and fold often.

Only play if you think you have the best cards. If you have a pair and someone raises you, he or she usually has a better hand than you.

Don’t be afraid to fold! Of course you could be bluffed but most players raise because they think they have a very good hand.

3. Avoid playing out of position.

It’s really difficult to play in an early position, so avoid it wherever possible. The early positions are the seats right after the big blind.

Play only very good hands such as pocket Aces, pocket Kings, Ace-King. Even if you get a hand like Ace-Jack, if you are out of position (that is in the early positions) then fold it.

4. Play those sneaky pocket pairs.

Always play pocket pairs from any position unless the pot has been raised so much it would cost too much. What you want is to hit a third card on the flop so you get trips; this happens about one time in eight.

When you do get trips you very often win a big pot. If you miss the trips on the flop then fold before the river is played, a low pair is not a very good hand.

5. Avoid draws.

If you have four cards to the flush or four cards to the straight then it’s very tempting to stay in the game and hope to get the right card on the turn.

If it doesn’t cost too much then sometimes you can, but usually it’s not a good idea and often costs more than you’ll get back.

6. If your seat feels uncomfortable, move to another.

If a player is bullying you at the table(in online poker or live games), someone has a large stack and forces you to gamble a lot, or if another player plays better than you do, then the normal reaction is to give back and show that guy who he’s messing with!

This is not a good idea and more often than not will end with you losing your entire stack. Instead simply leave the table and find another one.

7. Don’t play too much.

To win at poker you must focus on what you’re doing. Don’t play the whole day. If you start losing money take a break.

Also remember when playing online poker or not, to analyze your game. If you lose money then try to figure out why you lost it.

You will usually find that in a majority of cases you did not follow one of the rules above!
